Ulysses Jones, Jr. (b. June 7, 1951-November 9, 2010) was a Democratic member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing the 98th District.
Jones joined the Tennessee State House of Representatives in 1987. He has served in that position since, representing the 98th District.
Jones is the Lieutenant of Memphis Fire Services. He is also Battalion Chief of the City of Memphis Fire Department.
Jones attended both Tennessee State University and the University of Memphis.
Death
Jones died early morning November 9, 2010 in Memphis at the age of 59. State Senator Thelma Harper (D-Nashville) spoke about his life.
- "Representative Ulysses Jones leaves a legacy of speaking for those who had no voice, and for standing up for those who otherwise would have been left behind,” Harper said. "The Black Caucus and the entire Senate Democratic Caucus will miss his leadership as we strive to imitate the example he has given us."[1]
Gov. Bredesen announced that he issued a Writ of Election to fill Jones' vacancy. The Writ directs the Robertson County Election Commission to hold a Democratic primary election to fill the vacancy on Thursday, January 20, 2011. The general election was held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. The winner was Antonio Parkinson.[2]

Jones won re-election to the 98th District seat in 2010. He was unopposed in the August 5 primary.[3] He also faced no opposition in the general election on November 2, 2010.[4]
Jones passed away on November 9, 2010.[1]

On Nov. 4, 2008, Jones won re-election to the 98th District Seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives.[5]
Jones raised $73,323 for his campaign.[6]
