2016

The following issues were listed on Sheridan's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Jobs and the Economy: Everyone I talk with in this campaign believes that hard work, fair play and personal responsibility are important. But in the past few decades, greed on Wall Street and government decisions have favored those at the top while it’s made it harder and harder for families and small businesses to get ahead.
  • Social Security: At a time when the “baby boomers” are aging, and when younger, working Americans wonder how they will secure their retirement incomes, Social Security, Medicare, and institutions that protect seniors are of great concern to me. Democrats in Congress—most notably Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders—are fighting vigorously to protect Social Security and Medicare, while Republicans have consistently worked to derail the system by claiming it is broken or heading toward insolvency.
  • Climate Change: Without question climate change is the most important issue facing the world today. Given our position, the United States must be the world’s leader in taking action to combat climate change. Unlike some in Congress, I believe what the climate scientists are telling us about what is happening to the earth. When I’m in Congress, I will be a leading voice in supporting legislation that will stop and begin to reverse the effects of climate change.
  • Women’s Issues: It has become increasingly apparent that a vocal minority in Congress is targeting women’s rights (including reproductive sovereignty, access to affordable healthcare services, and wage equality), in an attempt to dismantle hard-won protections. I am committed to opposing this minority by affirming and protecting the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and ratified by the Supreme Court.
  • Military Personnel, Veterans and their families: As an American and as a candidate for Congress, I think every day about the tremendous commitment of courage and sacrifice that so many of our brave young men and women make, and have made, to our great country since 9/11. I honor their commitment. To that end, I’m committed to increasing pay and benefits for our military personnel who are currently serving and their families.

2014

Sheridan's campaign website listed the following issues in 2014:[7]

  • Veterans: "As an American and as a candidate for Congress, I think every day about the tremendous commitment of courage and sacrifice that so many of our brave young men and women make, and have made, to our great country since 9/11. I honor their commitment."
  • Afghanistan: "American troops have been in Afghanistan for twelve years – three times as long as it took us to win World War II. It’s time to get out! Over 2000 of our soldiers have been killed and many thousands more maimed for life. In addition to the incalculable cost to our troops and their families – we have spend over $300 billion dollars with scant results. This year our treaty with the Afghan government is up. It is time to leave and end this war! When I’m elected to Congress, I will work hard to make that happen."
  • Business: "I pledge to seek creation of sustainable and good paying jobs for future generations and concurrently support the research, development and implementation of green technologies for American firms. To this end, I will support tax credits, low-interest loans/loan guarantees and grants to encourage such work."
  • Immigration: "A year ago on April 16, 2013, the Senate passed S. 744 – a bi-partisan Immigration Reform Bill. Almost immediately, the leadership in House of Representatives, supported by 20 year incumbent Congressman Ken Calvert, decided that they would not take any action on the bill. Since then, the House has sat back and done nothing. The Republican leadership has even refused to allow the bill to come to the House floor for a simple up-or-down vote. This type of inaction is wrong. More importantly, it hurts our economy. The people of California’s 42nd District, and the country as a whole, deserve better."
