Three seats on the Sarasota County School Board were up for general election on August 26, 2014. The general election determined if candidates for each seat could garner a majority of the vote total. If no candidate received 50 percent plus one of the general election votes in a particular district, the top two vote recipients advanced to the runoff election on November 4, 2014.

Incumbent Bridget Ziegler ran against challengers Velton Hodges, Ken Marsh and Paul J. Schafer for the District 1 seat. No candidate received 50 percent of the vote, so Marsh and Ziegler, the top two vote-getters, advanced to the runoff election that was held on November 4, 2014. Ziegler triumphed over Marsh in that race. The District 4 race included incumbent Shirley Brown and challenger Helen Wolff. Brown won re-election. Jane Goodwin won re-election to the District 5 seat, defeating challenger Randy McLendon.[1]
