Susie Kopacz is an at-large member of the Community Unit School District 300 Board of Education in Illinois. She was first elected to the board in April 2011.[1]

Kopacz ran unopposed and won re-election in the general election on April 7, 2015.[2]

Community Unit School District 300 election featured four of the seven seats on the board of education up for general election on April 7, 2015. The seats held by incumbents Steve Fiorentino, Joe Stevens, Chris Stanton and Susie Kopacz were on the ballot. Stanton did not file to run for re-election, leaving Fiorentino, Stevens and Kopacz to run unopposed and win re-election to their seats. No one filed to run for the fourth seat up for election. Write-in candidate Kym Garcia won that fourth seat.

Community Unit School District 300 is located in Kane County and McHenry County in northeastern Illinois. The county seat of Kane County is Geneva, and the county seat of McHenry County is Woodstock. In 2013, Kane and McHenry Counties were home to 523,643 residents and 307,409 residents, respectively, according to the United States Census Bureau.[5][6] During the 2011-2012 school year, Community Unit School District 300 was the sixth-largest school district by enrollment in Illinois and served 20,810 students.[7]

Demographics

Both counties outperformed the rest of Illinois in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 31.7 percent of Kane County residents and 32.4 percent of McHenry County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 31.4 percent for Illinois as a whole. The median household income for Kane County was $69,530 and for McHenry County was $76,145, while it was $56,797 for the entire state. The poverty rates in Kane and McHenry Counties were 11.1 percent and 7.7 percent, respectively, compared to 14.1 percent statewide.[5][6]
