Raymond Lopez
Raymond Lopez is a member of the Chicago City Council in Illinois, representing Ward 15. He assumed office in 2015. His current term ends on May 17, 2027.
Lopez (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Illinois' 4th Congressional District. He lost in the Democratic primary on March 19, 2024.
Lopez was a Democratic candidate for Illinois' 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House. Lopez withdrew from the election before the primary scheduled for March 20, 2018.
Biography
Raymond Lopez grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Illinois. Lopez earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His career experience includes working at Southwest Airlines at Midway Airport as a skycap. Lopez was the first openly gay Latino to be elected to public office in the State of Illinois. He served on the Chicago City Council.[1]

2015
The city of Chicago, Illinois, held elections for city council on February 24, 2015. A runoff took place on April 7, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was November 24, 2014.[2] In the general election for Ward 15, Raymond A. Lopez and Rafael Yañez advanced past Adolfo Mondragon, Eddie L. Daniels, Otis Davis, Jr. and Raul O. Reyes. Lopez defeated Yañez in the runoff election on April 7, 2015.[3] Raul Ventura and Sandra L. Mallory were removed from the ballot in December 2014. Alberto Bocanegra was removed from the ballot in January 2015. Incumbent Toni Foulkes ran for re-election in Ward 16.[4][5]
