Borden answered the following questions for Germantown Now:

What do you feel is the most important thing to consider for the school district in the future?

I feel we need to utilize our professional teachers, staff and administration to hold each school to a consistent set of standards that measure up to our strong community. Use the personnel we already have in technology, professional staff and community driven resources to work together toward one focus: let the teachers teach, let the kids learn. Administration and the school board are here to support the staff.

What would you like to see happen with the future of facilities in the district?

In today's world we need to put resources toward safety in our schools. Both external as well as internal issues need to be addressed, holding kids and parents responsible for actions which interfere with kid's right to learn. Also, in order to make sure our kids will succeed after Germantown, they need to have the technological resources to compete. We need to provide them the learning tools that their generation will require for success. The classrooms and buildings that the kids are in will need to keep up with upgrades and repairs to facilitate a better learning environment.

What are your priorities if elected to the board?

I would like to keep this district ahead of the game for education: improve state test scores, offer individual learning opportunities for kids of all abilities, less forced curriculum changes for teachers holding them accountable but allowing for their professional expertise. I would reassess and utilize the staff and resources we already have for less spending on outside expensive studies or firms to do our job. I would work with the current board and administration to increase communication and accountability all to refocus efforts to keep our No. 1 priority goal, giving Germantown kids the best education and preparation to be successful adults.[5]
