Supporters
East Palo Alto Council Member Ruben Abrica, a member of the East Palo Alto city council, was a supporter of Measure B. He said, "Without this, I think it would just lead to more draconian reductions in education. I think this is a local support and it's good for the next few years. The community, I think, is conscious of that ... We still have to, I think, work on the bigger issues, and that's with the state. We have to work on ways to ensure better funding mechanisms."[3]
Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
To improve local elementary students’ reading, writing, math, computer/technology and other educational programs; increase safety for our children; maintain reduced class sizes; attract and retain highly qualified staff; shall the Ravenswood City School District levy a parcel tax of $98 for seven (7) years, and extend the current parcel tax for the same seven-year period; with exemptions for seniors aged 65 and older; and within the District’s total legal appropriations limit?”[4] |
