Ballotpedia survey responses

Hopkins stated the following about his political philosophy in a biographical submission to Ballotpedia:[3]

It is my concern for the future of my children and grandchildren that has motivated me to run for congress. The election of Donald Trump has weakened our moral authority on the world stage. I do not want my grandchildren living in a society of hate, intolerance and fear of anyone who is different.

I have a lifetime of experience helping disadvantaged populations. Most recently I have been a non-ecclesiastical mentor/volunteer at the Utah State Prison for two years and also served in an ecclesiastical position at the Davis County Jail. I recognize the ability of people to change and to achieve their full potential. I recently returned from an LDS employment/welfare mission to Detroit, where I participated in several community partnerships including interfaith and refugee councils as well as tutoring in inner-city schools.[6]
