Robert Bruce Propst was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He joined the court in 1980 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Propst died on May 14, 2019.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Onatchee, Alabama, Propst earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in 1953 and his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1957.[2]

Military service

Propst served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.[2]

Judicial career

Northern District of Alabama

Propst was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on January 10, 1980, to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama created by 92 Stat. 1629. Propst was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 29, 1980, and he received his commission on May 30, 1980. Propst elected to take senior status beginning on July 15, 1996.[2] He was succeeded in this position by Judge Dean Buttram Jr. Propst passed away on May 14, 2019.
