2017 statewide ballot measure election results
From Ballotpedia
This page features election results for all 22 statewide ballot questions that were on the ballot for the election on November 7, 2017, in seven states.
Races we watched closely:
- Ohio Issue 2—Drug Price Standards: The Pharmaceutical industry and the California-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation broke state spending records in the fight over this measure, and proposed 2018 initiatives in South Dakota and Washington D.C. added pressure to the results. It was defeated, with 79 percent of voters rejecting it.
- Maine Question 2—Medicaid expansion: Beyond the effect of this initiative's outcome on state residents and the conflict between Gov. LePage and the legislature over expansion, this initiative was described as a referendum on Obamacare. Amidst efforts at the Federal level to change or repeal Obamacare, Maine Question 2 took shape as a bellwether when Medicaid expansion-related 2018 initiatives were filed in four other states prior to the election. It was approved by 59 percent of voters.
- New York Proposal 1—Constitutional convention: The sheer size of the scope of policy changes that approval of this question opens up made the results interesting to watch. Polling showed a fairly steady increase in the number of voters opposed to Proposal 1 since July 2016—when 69 percent supported it—until the latest poll in October—which showed 57 percent opposition. Ultimately, tt was defeated; 83 percent of voters voted against it.
