I am a business and community leader with a proven track record of bringing people together to improve lives. I’ve lived in the Edgebrook neighborhood in Chicago for 22 years with my wife and our two children. I graduated from Bradley University, and earned my MBA from DePaul University.

The oldest of six children, I grew up in the Midwest. Both of my parents overcame economic hardships. My mother, an immigrant from Ireland, became a public-school teacher. My father, who lost his own father at a young age, worked while in high school and college to support his family and became a public servant.

Values such as integrity, service, justice, compassion, equity, and inclusion were instilled in me at a young age. These values informed what I’ve done in my life - as a husband, parent, organizer, activist, educator, and coach.

I have over 30 years professional experience in both the public and private sectors. I am a business transformation leader at Argonne National Laboratory, delivering operations improvement through innovation and complex problem solving. I’ve used these same abilities as a community organizer, making an impact by co-founding, leading, and serving numerous community organizations.

  • As a business leader and problem-solving expert, I have the experience and qualifications needed to deliver solutions and meet the urgent challenges facing our state during these unprecedented times.
  • As a community leader, I have an extensive track record of public service, and responding to the needs of our communities. I will be a champion for working people and our neighborhoods by fighting for the schools, healthcare, and resources we deserve.
  • We must ensure elected officials in Springfield are held accountable to higher standards of ethics and conduct. I will restore confidence in our state legislature through ethics reform legislation, as well demonstrating principled leadership with courage, integrity and transparency.
Health Care: As a human right, I’m committed to making health care affordable, accessible, and equitable for everyone in Illinois. I will support our healthcare workers, by ensuring adequate staffing levels and wages. Understaffed nursing homes in particular must be fortified to ensure higher quality of care.

Education: Public schools need adequate funding, regardless of what community you live in, across the entirety of the educational continuum. This is especially crucial for early childhood education. I will also advocate for an increase in resources for students with learning or mental health challenges.

Our Environment: Climate change is an urgent crisis, affecting current and future generations. I am committed to ensure clean air, clean water, and health communities. We must expand access to renewable energy, create good-paying green jobs, and transition to cleaner transportation systems.

Housing Affordability: Many families are burdened by the high cost of housing, and are being priced out of their homes. We must ensure a stable supply of affordable, accessible housing so that all the members of our community can live without fear of displacement and/or homelessness.

Safe Communities: I will work to create and sustain safe communities. I believe in taking a comprehensive approach to public safety, focusing on investments, intervention, and innovation, as well as ensuring a full recovery from the devastating effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
