Marty Chavez was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 1st Congressional District of New Mexico. He lost in the primary.[1]

Chavez was mayor of Albuquerque from 1991 to 2009. Prior to being elected mayor, he was elected to two terms in the New Mexico State Senate. He now serves on several advisory boards.[2]

Chavez ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent New Mexico's 1st District. Chavez lost to Michelle Lujan Grisham in the June 5 Democratic primary.[1][4]

A poll has Chavez trailing Michelle Lujan Grisham and Eric Griego.[5] The poll shows Griego leading among Hispanics, women, and liberals, while Grisham leads among men and Anglos.

Campaign funding

As of May 2012, Eric Griego had raised $847,000, Chavez had raised $645,000, and Michelle Lujan Grisham had raised $597,000.[6]
