I am the "Zero Donate Candidate." I am not asking for anyone's money, just their vote. Please see my website at lucindakwhjahn.com or my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/lucindakwh.jahn/ to learn more about my candidacy.
  • Term Limits! Serving in public office should not be a career path.
  • Fiscal Responsibility
  • Economic Sustainability and Independence.
I am passionate about education and it's potential for building a better civil society. I define education for myself as teaching people, "how to think," and not "what to think." How to think opens up new possibilities for growth. What to think is an indoctrination.
Integrity, intellectual honesty, compassion, empathy, and effective communication skills are very important characteristics for an elected official.
I possess a certain dogged persistence when it comes to solving a problem.
The core responsibility is to uphold the Constitution of the United States and maintain our, "limited democracy," that protects the individual from governmental abuse of power.
I had more than one job. I delivered the Indianapolis Star Newspaper in the mornings, 7 days a week at the age of 16. I also worked at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in the evenings.
"The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran. It is beautifully written and offers many lessons for living a more peaceful life.
The sheer number of citizens involved in the governance of this nation.
Our greatest challenges over the next decade as I see it are:

1. Redefining the role of government in our lives. What does it mean to be a citizen of a free society?
2. Our foreign policy. We need to model the behavior we expect from others.

3. Economic sustainability and independence. We need to move from a consumer driven economy to one less stressful on our environment. We need to learn how to do more with less.
Honestly, it may be too short. I would say no more than 4 years. Currently, it seems we get one year of work, then the campaign for the next term starts and we have representatives more interested in running for office than serving in office.
We should have term limits.
We live in a democracy, not an autocracy, compromise is necessary. By compromise, I mean, "to settle a dispute by mutual concession," as it is defined in the Oxford Dictionary.
The role it would play is the opportunity to rewrite the tax code! I have long thought the use of the tax code as a social engineering tool is counter productive to sound fiscal policy.

Why the "Zero Donate" candidate?

Politicians ask for your money, time, and support but not for your input on how their policies affect you or your family. Your voice is important, and you have a right to be heard. People voting is still how our leadership is chosen and all I need is for eligible voters to vote for me. I don't need millions of dollars to run for office. My integrity is not for sale. My decisions will not be influenced by how much money someone has. If I were to accept donations, it infers to some, they are entitled to more access to me, and more opportunities to inform my thinking. As the Zero Donate Candidate, I will be accountable to the people I represent. I will not be beholden to donors, corporations, party affiliations, or religious organizations.

Ironically, I remember the "Don't Bug Me." buttons the kids were wearing in school referring to Watergate. I was in 5th grade at the time, I must have been 10 years old. We lived in rural settings in my early childhood and frankly, I was rather insulated from the larger world.
Which one? Most often I worked at least two jobs at a time in High School. I worked in food service, at Ponderosa Steak House part-time, and delivered the Indianapolis Star newspaper 7 days a week. My first management job was an Assistant Manager of a GCC movie theater at 18 years old. I worked at each at least a year or more. I've not collected one unemployment check in my entire working life.
"The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran. It is a poetic and beautiful philosophy of life.
My favorite song is "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles.
It is a body that, when it functions at its best, gives voice to the governed.
We face a changing economic landscape. Automation, climate change, and global trade are rapidly changing the utilization of human capital. We are looking at changing paradigms in how we work, what work we do, and how we educate people to accomplish the work. We face huge systemic change in almost every aspect of our lives. The temptation is to look for the 'one" simple answer. Frankly, there is not one simple answer. We are going to have to start looking at "systems" and how they relate to one another. We will need to start being honest with ourselves and the citizens of the United States about the costs of what we do and the benefits. An example of this is the discussion of climate change while applauding the strength of economies based on consumption of goods. How you can discuss one as if it is not related to the other baffles me. We must have these conversations.
Given the complexity of issues today, probably too short.
Yes, we should have term limits. The office of representative should not be a career path. People staying in for decades in my mind comes to resemble an oligarchy in practice if not in intent.
