I have represented the Woodbridge District on the Prince William County School Board since 2013. In this capacity, I have been instrumental in shaping education policy and ensuring that students in my district receive the best possible educational opportunities.

I am a mother of two boys, one is a graduate of Prince William County Schools, and the youngest is currently enrolled in a Title 1 Woodbridge District elementary school. As a lifelong community servant, I have held the title of PTA President, Gifted Advisory Committee member, Peer Mediator, and PWC Youth volunteer.

Beyond my work as the Woodbridge District School Board member, I am also a Prince William County Racial and Social Justice Commission member and Vice Chair of the Governor School at Innovation Park. My long-standing commitment to public education is a testament to my passion for positively impacting the community.

A George Mason University, graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Integrative Studies with a specialization in Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping. I am also a proud alumnus of George Mason University's Early Identification Program. While attending GMU, I became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

In addition, I am a proud graduate of Prince William County Schools, having graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School. As a working professional, I have a demonstrated history of working across multiple industries to support C-Suite executives for over twenty years.
I am passionate about education policy. I am committed to shaping and improving the systems, structures, and practices that govern educational institutions. This means advocating for equitable access to quality education, promoting innovative teaching methodologies, and championing policies that address the diverse needs of students. I am dedicated to working with the Superintendent and Board members to foster inclusive learning environments, fostering teacher development, and implementing strategies to enhance educational outcomes at all levels. I believe in the transformative power of education and a desire to create a more just and prosperous society through effective policy initiatives.
I look up to those who have come before me who have made a positive impact in the world. Individuals such as my grandmother who was the neighborhood ombudsman who started a local chapter of NAACP. My mother who sacrificed so much of her wants to raise me while demonstrating what it means to give back to the community in action. Service in the community is a family value which I have learned and will pass to my children.
It is vital that an elected official can work collaboratively with others and demonstrate commitment to the role by attending all required events and meetings. Elected officials must continue to learn and grow in office by continuing to educate themselves through professional development and to stay current on the laws and trends related to their positions. Elected officials must be able to build and maintain trust with all stakeholders and actively listen to their stakeholders. They must also uphold their oath of office at all times when making decisions on behalf of those they represent. Patience and integrity are paramount.
My educational background is in conflict resolution and peacekeeping which has provided me with valuable skills which have allowed me to work successfully with individuals from all backgrounds and positions. I believe it is imperative to continue to learn and I take advantage of all opportunities to do so. I recognize that I do not know all the answers and therefore it is imperative to always keep an open mind and engage with others especially if they hold a differing position from mine.
The core responsibility is to be a bridge between the school division and the community. In addition to being responsible for governance and policy, budgeting as well as hiring and evaluating the Superintendent. Community engagement is also a primary responsibility.
I would my legacy to be someone who advocated for an equitable school division and provided a voice for the underserved in my community.
I remember watching the Challenger disaster in middle school. I was a pre-teen. It was a tragic event that has left a permanent mark on my life.
My very first job was working for a retail clothing store, I held the job through my junior and seniors of high school.
I have so many favorites it is hard to choose just one. I am currently reading Grit by Angela Duckworth.
Maintaining a quality work-life balance is a continuous work in progress that I continue to learn and grow in to achieve the goals that best fit my family.
A school board member's role is to govern the school district. The primary role is to represent the interests of the community, students, and educators in making decisions that affect the local public school system. The responsibilities of a School Board member are to:

School board members work to establish the vision, mission, and goals for the school district. Board members develop and implement policies that govern various aspects of education, such as curriculum, budgeting, and student services. Board members are responsible for overseeing the school district's budget, as well as hiring and annually evaluating the superintendent( who is responsible for day-to-day operations), community engagement, advocacy, and policy development. Board members are also responsible for ensuring that the school district operates in compliance with state and federal education laws and regulations, including those related to curriculum standards, student safety, and educational equity.
My primary constituents are those who reside in the Woodbridge Magisterial District. I believe that all who are in the school division or affiliated are also my constituents as a board member is a public servant.
I support the diverse needs of the community by actively promoting inclusivity, equity, and cultural awareness within the school district. I accomplish this by advocating for diversity and inclusion, promoting culturally responsive instruction, and multilingual education, and working collaboratively with the Superintendent to address educational disparities. In addition, engaging with diverse community stakeholders and actively listening to the needs that are expressed by stakeholders.
Relationships are built by being in the community and being accessible to stakeholders. I have actively held virtual and in-person office hours, I attend community events all year long held by various groups. I actively attend school events to engage and support my school community. I have been endorsed by CASA in Action and Mid- Atlantic Trades because of my ability to support various stakeholders and community groups. I will continue to be present and accessible as it is a critical part of my role.
Good teaching is characterized by a combination of various qualities and practices that foster a positive and effective learning environment. A few characteristics include content expertise, the ability to effectively communicate, empathy and understanding, the ability to differentiate instruction and encourage critical thinking, and the ability to manage a classroom. I support teachers in this manner by holding the Superintendent accountable for ensuring teachers have the educational tools, and opportunity to develop as a professional and needed senior leadership to provide support on an ongoing basis.
Cirriculum is set by the state. As a Board member, I have advocated and supported the growth of Career and Technical programs (trades), dual enrollement, advanced placement studies and interships, I would like to see more in-house interships for students and expand community business partnerships for students.
I plan to continue to advocate for full funding of schools by lobbying local, state, and federal officials who are responsible for providing funding. At the local level, during my tenure, I have been able to work collaboratively to have the local government provide funding above the existing revenue-sharing agreement. I plan to continue to grow and develop these relationships to ensure funding continues to increase.
All students deserve to learn in a safe environment and all staff deserve to work in a safe environment. This also includes an emotionally safe environment. Discrimination and bullying have no place in school buildings. If students don't feel safe they can not learn.
I have voted to increase the number of social workers and counselors in the budget. In addition, I have supported the work of local government to increase mental health institutions in our community. I support the division's current plan for social and emotional learning for students and staff and will continue to do so in this role.
I will continue to advocate and change policies that provide equity in the school division for all. In addition, I would like to implement new policies that expand educational opportunities for students to ensure college and career readiness.

An ideal learning environment is one where students and staff feel safe and secure as well as have access to various educational opportunities and tools needed to learn. The environment should encourage students to become critical thinkers who can problem solve and be prepared upon graduation to enter the workforce and/or attend college.
The School District handled the pandemic as best as it could navigating through an unprecedented time. The Division was the first in the area to open in person to the students who needed it most. The school district performed above and beyond by providing educational opportunities to teach families how to utilize technology to help their students and the necessary tools and equipment needed. In addition, meals were made available at no cost to families as well as free or low-cost internet service. The District implemented a two-year learning recovery strategy and we are currently in year two of providing targeted strategies to help students.
I am a parent of an elementary student and I am quite active in his school. I have been a long-standing PTA member and actively attend events at all the schools in my district which is the best way to engage with parents. I also communicate electronically with newseltters and on various social media platforms.
My preferred strategies for faculty, staff, and administration are working with the Superintendent's office to:

Establish and maintain a strong employer brand, Utilize online job platforms, and participate in job fairs across the nation. Build partnerships and maintain current with educational institutions and provide growth opportunities.
