Kathleen D. Baxter is the Alabama Comptroller. Baxter assumed office on August 2, 2017.
She was first appointed to the position on July 12, 2017, by state finance director Clinton Carter and was confirmed by Gov. Kay Ivey (R) on August 2, 2017.[1][2]
Biography
Baxter earned an associate degree in culinary arts from Trenholm Technical College, a bachelor’s degree and MBA in government accounting from Auburn University Montgomery, and a Ph.D. in public administration and public policy from Auburn University.[3] Baxter's career experience includes working as an accountant for the State Comptroller’s Office and the Finance Department. She became deputy state comptroller in May 2016 and was appointed Alabama Comptroller in July 2017. Before working for the state government, she provided accounting services for Health Services, Inc., Prattville Hospital, Bank of Prattville, and for Durbin Auto Parts, a business owned by her family. She also worked as an accounting instructor for Auburn University Montgomery.[4]

Baxter was first appointed Alabama Comptroller on July 12, 2017, by state finance director Clinton Carter and was confirmed by Gov. Kay Ivey (R) on August 2, 2017. Prior to that, Baxter had served as acting comptroller following the January 2017 death of Tom White. Baxter was the first woman appointed to the position of comptroller in Alabama history.[1][2]
