  • Let's do smart things for Oklahoma!
  • Fight for quality education
  • We must spend money wisely and be good stewards of the public trust
(1) Education, (2) quality infrastructure, and (3) working for smart public policies that will help make Oklahoma the kind of place that attracts and retains outstanding and talented people.
I distinctly remember the Spaceshuttle Challenger Explosion in 1986. I was four and a half years old. My dad was the principal at Springdale Elementary (or possibly Robertson Elementary), and he had assembled his entire school in the gym to watch live on television. The crew included Christa McAuliffe, a civilian schoolteacher, which made the launch a particularly interesting one for school-aged children to watch. I was not present at his school, but I remember him talking about how challenging it was to deal with that live and tragic situation with elementary aged children.
My first jobs were as a pianist for events and weddings, and as a private trumpet teacher. (I played trumpet for ten years, and started teaching while I was in 8th grade, maintaining several students until I graduated from high school). I worked as a house painter for a couple of summers, and then for three years in college, I worked as the church pianist for a church in Norman, Oklahoma.
I don't know about a favorite book. One book I recently read that I really enjoyed was "The Men Who Lost America" by Andrew Jackson O'Shaughnessy. It presented a fascinating and detailed portrait of the various British leaders who were our adversaries in the Revolutionary War.
