Candidate Connection

Kris Murray completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Murray's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Public Safety - proactive fire protection BEFORE wildfire season starts, increased police patrols in neighborhoods and contract cities, elimination of homeless camps and an increase in services, and protecting Prop 13 protections for homeowners.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Public Safety (Police and Fire), Transportation,

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Winston Churchill, my family and God.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

"You can get an awful lot done in government if you do not care who gets the credit." - Winston Churchill

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Accountability - buck has to stop with you

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I do not tell the people what they want to hear, I tell them what they need to hear.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To place Orange County, its residents, its businesses and everything that makes our county great FIRST! That is why one of my campaign themes is Orange County First! Our district is facing big obstacles and career politicians that are only out for themselves cannot get the job done.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I will consider it a personal failure if we have not reduced 911 response times, decreased homelessness and intravenous drug use on our streets and establishing a no fire zone near our neighborhoods.

2014

On her campaign website, Murray highlighted the following issues:[5]

Public safety

  • Excerpt: "There is no greater priority for me as a member of the Anaheim City Council than to provide for the safety and security of our residents and businesses."

Anaheim Convention Center

  • Excerpt: "With overwhelming support from residents, businesses, public safety, labor, regional and state elected leadership, the City Council approved plans to move forward with a major $180M expansion of the Anaheim Convention Center (ACC). This action paves the way for an additional 200,000 square feet of "flex space," space that can be used as exhibit, ballroom, or meeting rooms, and increase the Convention Center's available exhibit square-footage to more than 1 million square-feet, the most on the west coast."

The Angels

  • Excerpt: "As a member of the City Council, I have been a strong and vocal supporter of keeping Angels Baseball in Anaheim. As we continue to negotiate a new agreement with the team, please know that it is my top priority to ensure the best deal for residents and taxpayers."

Community services

  • Excerpt: "Anaheim has emerged from a lasting recession with a stronger, sustainable economic climate due to years of innovative planning and significant private sector investments. As a member of the City Council, I have worked to balance the budget, restore city cash reserves, and invest in core city services across all neighborhoods."

Jobs

  • Excerpt: "Throughout my tenure on the City Council, I have been deeply committed to policies that will grow job opportunities in Anaheim and throughout Orange County."
