Morefield (Republican Party) (formerly James) is running for re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates to represent District 43. He declared candidacy for the Republican primary scheduled on June 17, 2025.[source]

Biography

Morefield was born in Bluefield, West Virginia. Morefield earned his B.A.S. from Midwestern State University in May 2007. His career experience includes owning a small business. He has been affiliated with the Tazewell Area Chamber of Commerce and the Coal and Energy Commission.[1]

Elections for the Virginia House of Delegates took place in 2017. All 100 house seats were up for election. The general election took place on November 7, 2017. A primary election took place on June 13, 2017. The filing deadline for primary election candidates was March 30, 2017. The filing deadline for non-party candidates and candidates nominated by methods other than a primary was June 13, 2017.[2] Incumbent James Morefield (R) defeated Bill Bunch Jr. (D) in the Virginia House of Delegates District 3 general election.[3]

Morefield won re-election in the 2013 election for Virginia House of Delegates District 3. Morefield ran unopposed in the June 11th Republican primary and defeated James O'Quinn (D) in the general election on November 5, 2013.[9]

On November 8, 2011, Morefield won re-election to District 3 of the Virginia House of Delegates. He obtained the GOP nomination and defeated Russell Vern Presley II (D) in the November 8 general election.[10]

Sanctity of Life:
As a new father who looks into the innocent and trusting eyes of our newborn daughter, I know the value of protecting the lives of the unborn. Our U.S. Constitution guarantees Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness. As your state delegate, I will always passionately defend life.

Second Amendment:
I have always recognized our God given right to keep and bear arms. This includes both for recreational use and to protect ourselves and our family. I will always be a stanch supporter of your Second Amendment rights.

Coal:
In my time as Delegate, I have fought hard to advocate for coal and natural gas jobs. I know the significant role coal plays in our community and in our state! I am proud to be the the first elected official to publicly stand up for coal and am honored to have the support and trust of Virginia Coal and Energy Alliance as I fight for our district.

Job Creation:
One of my main priorities is attracting more quality jobs to our district. I am currently working to create a regional authority to bring new industry to our region. I initiated Project Jonah (the largest aquaculture project in the world) bringing hundreds of jobs to our area. I don't believe in just talking about job creation, I believe in rolling up my sleeves and actually making it happen!

Education:
Education is the foundation for success, but in order to have a successful education system we need qualified teachers. This is why I fought for teacher pay raises. This will allow us to be competitive and to retain quality educators instead of losing them to larger areas. [13]
