On March 7th I declared my candidacy for the Georgia Senate from District 50 in North Georgia because I have been jerrymandered out of each political seat I have pursued.

After a career as a registered nurse, health care advocate, and active supporter of human rights causes, I am moved to give back to my colleagues, friends, and neighbors in return for all that I learned from them. I am anxious to get to work on improving healthcare, education, protecting the environment, and the arts. My priorities also include expanding tourism, guaranteeing equal rights — including women’s reproductive rights, and common sense criminal justice reform.

My background and accomplishments qualify me to accomplish these legislative goals. I have served as President of the 9th District Democratic Women and I am currently the Chair of the 9th Congressional District for the Democratic Party of Georgia and President of the Georgia Federation of Democratic Women.

My experiences in healthcare, as a small business owner, and as a consultant to many people in community care have allowed me to learn the skills of executive management. Those skills include clear communication, information transfer, team-building, cooperation, and negotiation that underlie the processes of developing and passing legislation.
  • Affordable healthcare for all Georgians.
  • We must work hard to restore women's right to full reproductive healthcare options.
  • We must provide excellent public education to all Georgians.
Richard Krise. He is well educated, articulate, an excellent teacher and communicator, and has great patience.
I have adopted the Creed as espoused in Democrats 101 by JM "Jim" Purvis. [dems101.org]
Personal integrity and accessibility to the voters are hallmarks of an effective elected official.
effective in putting the right people together to reach identified goals. good investigative skills and good problem solving skills. i don t mind others taking creidt as long as the job gets done.
To listen to the voters, to educate the voters when necessary, and to represent my constituents when the legislature is in session or I take part in any official capacity.
I was greatly affected by the assassination of John F. Kennedy. I was sixteen and in High School. I could not understand why someone would kill our President -- or any political figure -- because they disagreed with their policies or actions.
long distance operator with Southern Bell. 2 years.
Its all Over but the Shouting by Rick Bragg because it tells the story of middle class and poor people from North Alabama where I was born.
The Governor should execute the laws as passed by the Legislature. For too long the executive branch has usurped the power of the legislature. The Governor presents the budget for approval. The Governor has a floor leader to make sure that what he (and it should be a she occasionally) wants passed. The Governor appoints members to Boards and Commissions. The list of overreaching actions goes on...
Healthcare for all, including reproductive rights restored to the women of Georgia.

Justice for everyone, no matter how long it takes.

The end to food insecurity in Georgia.

Affordable housing for all Georgians.

Political transparency, an end to restrictions on voting, and an end to jerrymandering.

The end to welfare for huge corporations and millionaire farmers at the expense of middle-class Georgians.

A government that cares about its citizens as much as it cares about political donors.
I believe in a mix of experiential levels. I think new, younger ideas are essential to growing a democracy. I think experienced legislators are an essential source of continuity, but I believe in reasonable term limits so that legislators do not feel entitled to their seats forever.
One of the worst outcomes of the tribalism in politics today is that the two parties do not see each other as people any more. Legislators (and other politicians) no longer see each other socially, so they no longer see each other as humans who just see things differently.
Jimmy Carter was a great legislator, a moderate and forward looking Governor, an effective President with a streak of bad luck, and the best ex-President in America's history.
Only in the case of a true emergency that affects a large majority of Georgians.
A bill to accept Medicaid expansion without interference from the governor,

I am a financial moderate who believes in government accountability and full disclosure of how the budget is prepared and tax monies are spent.

I believe that it is a disgrace that the leadership of our state is sitting on $!6 Billion while so many Georgians do not have adequate healthcare, are struggling to feed themselves and their children, and too many of our citizens do not have a roof over their heads,
