John Bailey (Republican Party) is the Chief Justice of the Texas Eleventh District Court of Appeals. He assumed office on September 17, 2018. His current term ends on December 31, 2030.

Bailey (Republican Party) ran for re-election as Chief Justice of the Texas Eleventh District Court of Appeals. He won in the general election on November 5, 2024.

Biography

Education

Bailey received an A.A. degree with highest honors in 1987 from Cisco Junior College. He then graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. from Tarleton State University in 1989. He majored in government and minored in history. While an undergraduate, Bailey also earned a secondary teaching certificate. Finally, he graduated cum laude with a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1992.[1]

Career

After graduating from Texas Tech, Bailey became a briefing attorney for Eleventh Court of Appeals Chief Justice Austin McCloud for one year. Afterward, Bailey entered into private practice in Abilene at Glandon & Scarborough, P.C. In 2001, he returned to the Eleventh District Court as a staff attorney. That lasted until his appointment as a judge in 2013.[1]

Biographical details

Bailey is a native of Cisco, Texas, where he resides with his wife Sarah. He graduated from Cisco High School, where he was the valedictorian of the class of 1985. Bailey's hobbies include traveling and woodworking. He is also the public address announcer for the Cisco High School football team.[1]
