John P. Collins is a certificated justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the 12th Judicial District of New York. He was appointed to this position in 2009 and became a certificated justice the following year.[1][2]

Education

Collins received his B.S. degree from Fordham University in 1960 and his J.D. degree from New York University in 1963.[1]

Career

Collins began his career in 1963 as a Senior Trial Assistant of the New York County District Attorney's Office. He served there as the Chief of Narcotic Prosecutions until 1970, when he became a law secretary for Supreme Court Justice Joseph A. Sarafite. He then worked as a Bureau Chief in the New York County District Attorney's Office from 1975 to 1978.

Collins was appointed judge of the New York City Criminal Court in 1978. He was reappointed to this position in 1987, 1997 and 2008. He was an Acting Supreme Court Justice from 1982 to 2009, when he was elected to the Supreme Court. He has also served as a Supervising Judge (1999 to 2002) and Administrative Judge (2002 to 2009) of the Bronx County Supreme Court Criminal Division.[1]
