Joseph Dawson (New York)
Joseph J. Dawson is an acting justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the 12th Judicial District of New York. He was appointed to this position in 2004. He has also served on the New York City Criminal Court since 1999.[1][2]
Education
Dawson received his B.A. degree from St. John's University in 1978 and his J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1982.[1]
Career
Dawson began his career in 1981 as a summer associate of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. After graduating from law school in 1982, he worked as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge William Nealon. He then joined the law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in 1984. He became an Assistant New York County District Attorney in 1987 and worked in this capacity until 1999. He also worked as an adjunct professor of law for the New York Law School from 1997 to 1999.
Dawson was appointed to the New York City Criminal Court in 1999 and was reappointed to this position in 2009. Since 2004, he has been an Acting Supreme Court Justice.[1]
