Joseph Almeida
Joseph Almeida (Democratic Party) was a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 12. He assumed office in 2012. He left office on January 4, 2021.
Almeida (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Rhode Island State Senate to represent District 6. He lost in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2022.
Almeida resigned as deputy majority whip on February 10, 2015, after he was arrested for allegedly misappropriating $6,122.03 in campaign contributions for his personal use.[1] He pleaded no contest to the charge on June 25, 2015.[2]
Almeida represented Rhode Island State Senate District 12 from 1999 to 2010. He previously served as deputy majority leader.
Biography
Almeida earned his B.A. from Roger Williams College in 1990. His professional experience includes working as a financial strategist, as a patrolman for the Providence Police Department from 1979 to 1995, and as the owner of Essence Construction. Almeida served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marines from 1978 to 1985.[3]

Almeida ran unsuccessfully for re-election to the 12th District seat in 2010. Leo Medina defeated him in the primary election. Medina faced no opposition in the general election on November 2, 2010.[13][14]

In 2008, Almeida was re-elected to the Rhode Island House District 12. Almeida (D) ran unopposed and finished with 3,153 votes.[15] Almeida did not raise any money for his campaign fund.[16]

Misuse of campaign funds
On February 10, 2015, Almeida was arrested for allegedly misappropriating $6,122.03 in campaign contributions for his personal use. He was charged with Unlawful Appropriation of over $1,500.00. He pleaded not guilty to the charge on February 10.[1][18]
On May 12, 2015, Almeida pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of personal use of campaign funds. He received one year of probation and a $1,000 fine.[2]
