Gary R. Sharpe was a judge of the Fond du Lac County Circuit Court in Wisconsin.[1] He was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2016.[2] He resigned from the court on December 31, 2020.[3]

2016
Wisconsin held general elections for local judicial offices on April 5, 2016. A primary election took place on February 16, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 5, 2016. Incumbent Gary Sharpe ran unopposed in the Fond Du Lac County Circuit Court general election for Branch 4.[2]

The 241 judges of the Wisconsin Circuit Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections to six-year terms. All judges must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving after their term expires.[4]
The chief judge of each circuit court is chosen by the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[4]
Qualifications
To serve on the circuit courts, a judge must be:[4]
- a qualified elector in the state;
- a qualified elector of his or her circuit (for circuit judges); and
- licensed to practice law in the state for at least five years.
2010

Sharpe ran for a seat on the Fond du Lac County Circuit Court in 2010. The seat was open due to the retirement of Steven Weinke. Sharpe beat opponent Scot T. Mortier with 4,658 to 6,006 votes.[5] Sharpe said that his many years as a practicing attorney gave him the experience needed to serve the court: "I would characterize my career as being that of the quintessential general practitioner. ...I understand the practical aspects of the practice of law; I've done it for 33 years."[6]
Education
Gary Sharpe received his B.A. from the Ripon College and received his J.D. from University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1976.[7]
Awards and associations
Sharpe has been elected to the Fond du Lac School District Board of Education four times and has served as treasurer, secretary and president. He is also on the Association of Commerce Board. Sharpe formerly served as president of the Red Cross and secretary for the United Way Board.[6]
