Five nominated by Obama for District Courts

Washington, D.C.: Yesterday, President Barack Obama nominated five individuals to serve on four U.S. District Courts. Of the nominations, Obama said, "These individuals have demonstrated a commitment to justice throughout their careers. I am confident they will serve the American people with distinction from the United States District Court.”[1]
They are:
- Marco A. Hernandez, a current judge on the Washington County Circuit Court, Oregon, nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Oregon;
- Beryl A. Howell, current member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia;
- Steve C. Jones, current judge of the 10th Superior Court District of Georgia, was nominated for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia;
- Diana Saldaña, current federal magistrate judge, nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas; and
- Michael H. Simon, current partner in the law firm Perkins Cole LLP, was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Oregon.[1]
All federal courts nominees must first be approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee and then confirmed by the Senate.
