Cheryl L. Dyson is the superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools. Dyson was appointed superintendent in July 2022. Dyson's previous career experience includes, most recently, serving as an area associate superintendent for Montgomery County Public Schools. She has also worked multiple administrative and academic roles, including assistant principal, principal, director of school support and improvement of elementary schools, director of family and community engagement, and as a teacher.[1]
Past superintendents
- Mike Markoe was the interim superintendent from December 2021 until July 1, 2022.[2]
- Theresa R. Alban was the superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools from July 2011 until December 2021.[2] Alban's previous career experience includes working as an elementary and special education teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools, as coordinator of student assessment with Montgomery County Public Schools, and chief operating officer of Howard County Public Schools.[3]
School board
The Frederick County Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Each member represents the entire county from an at-large seat. The board has one student member, selected by the Frederick County Association of Student Councils, to serve a one-year term.[4]
