My name is Elliott Engen and I am running in District 38B for MN House. I am working to be a true public servant, not a politician. I believe in ensuring our state's tax dollars go towards programs Minnesotans need such as education, infrastructure, and public safety. Now more than ever, we need leaders who are transparent, honest, and have a moral compass. I believe I can provide that for constituents of our beautiful community.
As a Conservative, I believe we are to treat every tax dollar with integrity. It is time we ensure our public schools are fit for growth, our communities are safe, and our infrastructure is well maintained. I believe we can improve MN healthcare through Direct Primary Care, which lowers costs for Minnesotans while maintaining free market principles needed to provide innovation.
I look up to Congressman Dan Crenshaw of TX-2. His honesty, rationality, and service to our country is truly refreshing.
The Constitution of the United States sums up my political stances pretty well. I also live by the principles taught in the Bible.
Practicality, integrity, trustworthiness, determination, charismatic.
Pragmatic, honest, caring, determined, and passionate at finding solutions.
To represent the constituents with honesty and respect. To work to make our community a better place to work, grow, and live.
To be a man of integrity and service. To think of others before self, and to live in accordance with my faith.
I recall the housing crash and Great Recession of 2008-09. I recall the devastation and significant loss of jobs, security, and well-being that took place. At the time, I was 11.
I worked here in our downtown as a bus boy at a local pizza shop. I was employed there over a year and learned basic skills which translated into everyday life and taught me the value of a hard day's work.
The Coddling of the American Mind by Jonathon Haidt
The Dark Knight. Too many awesome gadgets and skills.
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones
Our system of government in MN allows for many nuanced discussions as to how to address issues that Minnesotans face. Our state senate and house are unique in that they each play a significant role in developing pragmatic solutions to real issues. Recently, we have seen little cooperation from our state's DFL House members and this is concerning.
I believe it is important for state legislators to be able to listen and create solutions that best fit their district's needs. Experience in the political sphere is not always for the better. We need leaders who are willing to listen and communicate and that is what I feel I can provide
Our ever-growing budget with vast surpluses and deficits needs to be addressed. We must also look at our tax policy which is making it harder and harder to raise a family, grow a business, and live with economic security. We must also address our affordability of healthcare which is growing more and more costly due to further state-imposed mandates.
The ideal relationship between governor and legislature is one of cooperation and not solely partisan posturing.
It is extremely important to form relationships with other legislators. This improves cooperation, increases efficiency and removes the mudslinging that we tend to see currently.
I am curious to learn more as to how gerrymandering, partisan strongholds, and negotiations play a role in redistricting, which will take place in our next legislative session.
Tax Committee, Ways and Means, environmental and Natural Resources policy
I have spoken to many small businesses and many are fearful and uncertain of their future. No single story can be told, but all are impactful. Stories of resilience and determination to work hard and provide for their families.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Minnesota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
