Derek Kawakami is a former Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives, representing District 14 from 2011 to 2016.

Kawakami was appointed by Gov. Neil Abercrombie on April 4, 2011, to replace Hermina Morita (D).[1]

Kawakami did not seek re-election to the Hawaii House of Representatives in 2016.

Elections for the Hawaii House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on August 9, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Incumbent Derek S.K. Kawakami was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Jonathan K. Hoomanawanui was unopposed in the Republican primary. Kawakami defeated Hoomanawanui in the general election.[5][6][7]
