Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Ross' campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Taxes: The fundamental principle that our country was founded upon is fair and honest in dealings between the government and the people. We expect our government to tell us the truth and to be free from corrupting influences. Yet our tax system in my opinion is the most corrupt institution in history.
  • Public Safety: At some point here in America, we have to accept the problem that building more prisons cannot be the best long-term solution. United States has more people in prison than any other country in the world, including those we accuse of being repressive societies.
  • Foreign Policy: We can no longer afford to keep purchasing friends and financing repressive leaders.
  • Immigration: On this subject I am deeply conflicted on a moral level as well as a practical level. We are all immigrants, even Native Americans. While we want to accept immigrants into our country, we must control the flow of immigration to prevent destabilization of our society. Some people believe that we should accept anyone without restrictions. This jeopardizes not only our safety but the principles that our society is based on. Immigrants who have no intention of adapting to our democracy should not be accepted. A guest should always show respect to the host.
  • The war on drugs: The war on drugs has been a complete failure by any stretch of the imagination. I think it’s time we change the way we deal with drugs in our society. We seem to think we can legislate our way out of every problem but clearly that hasn’t worked. It should be up to each individual state as to how they deal with marijuana, cocaine and heroin.
