Candidate Connection

Dan LeClair participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on September 7, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Dan LeClair's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

50/50 Equal Shared parenting for two fit, loving parents.
Give local police, and first responders more resources to deal with the opioid epidemic.
Find ways to fund and grow mental health and substance recovery programs.
Lift restrictions on public school funding and allow school districts to allocate money where they feel is needed most.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Family Law reformCite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Dan LeClair answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

John F. Kennedy. Starting with his bravery as a Navy Lieutenant and his command of the PT-109. His thoughts and ideas inspired a nation. He wanted the US to achieve great success. He wanted Americans to believe they could achieve greatness. His views in today's politics, I believe, would be more aligned with conservatives. "Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try." -J.F.K[3]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
The characteristics most needed by an elected official are integrity, honesty, hardworking, and inspirational[3]
What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?
The qualities that I possess are the ability to understand the personal issues people deal with on a daily basis. What they want or need to achieve a better placement in life. I have worked hard so far this election cycle to be able to come up with solutions to problems we face as a community by listening to the people of our community.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The core responsibilities to someone elected to office would be to do what the people elected them to do. It is their job to talk and find out as much information as possible to make their community a better place to live in.[3]
What legacy would you like to leave?
I want to leave with people knowing that I did everything I could to make NH a better place to raise families.[3]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?
The first historical event I remember in my lifetime would be the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.[3]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I worked at Shaw's Supermarket in Keene and stocked shelves after school. I worked there long enough to save money to buy my first car, so about 6 months.[3]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It is a time when friends and family come together just for the enjoyment of spending time together.[3]
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My favorite thing in my house are my gold Elvis Presley records. Yes, I am a big Elvis fan.[3]
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Can't take my eyes off you by Frankie Valli and the Fours Seasons[3]
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
The biggest challenge we face as a state is bringing and end to the opioid crisis we face.[3]
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?
The Governor and legislature needs to have a very open and close relationship. This way they Governor knows what each district in the state wants and needs.[3]
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
I think it is absolutely necessary to build relationships with other legislators. We have to have a more bi-partisan approach to state politics. Working together and understanding the ideas of everyone you work with allows for great progress to be made.[3]
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
I would want to be a part of the Children and Family Law committee.[3]
Are you interested in running for a different political office in the future?
I want to increase my role in government in the future, just not sure what avenue to take.[3]
