A City of Banning Mining Tax, Measure J ballot question was on the November 4, 2014 election ballot for voters in the city of Banning in Riverside County, California. It was approved.

Measure J authorized the city to impose a $0.80 per ton tax on the mining and excavation of rock material. The tax was a general tax, which means its revenue was designed to go into the city's general fund to be used for any governmental purpose.[1]

Ballot question

The question on the ballot:[1]

Shall an Ordinance be adopted establishing a general mining tax of 80 cents per ton upon the excavation and processing of rock material, and placing the proceeds of these taxes in the City’s general fund to be spent for general governmental purposes, which includes police, fire, and maintaining streets and public areas; as well as to pay for studying correcting and reducing the effects of mining of residents and businesses?[2]
