Chad Chronister
Chad Chronister (Republican Party) is the Hillsborough County Sheriff in Florida. Chronister assumed office in 2017. Chronister's current term ends on January 2, 2029.
Chronister (Republican Party) won re-election for Hillsborough County Sheriff in Florida outright in the general election on November 5, 2024, after the Republican primary and general election were canceled.
Chronister was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott (R) to replace outgoing sheriff David Gee (R) in 2017.[1]
On November 30, 2024, Trump announced he had selected Chronister as his nominee for administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). This position requires Senate confirmation. In a statement, Trump said, "As DEA Administrator, Chad will work with our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to secure the Border, stop the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border, and SAVE LIVES."[2] On December 3, 2024, Chronister withdrew from consideration.[3]
