I am a Hillsborough County native and went to law school at Stetson University College of Law. I am the owner of my own law firm, handling cases in criminal law, family law, and personal injury. In addition to private practice, I am proud to be the only attorney on the ballot court appointed by the State of Florida. I have the privilege to handle Marchman Act cases exclusively and one of very few lawyers that in this county that practice in this area. Marchman Act Court was established as a problem-solving court that allows families to petition the courts for mandatory substance abuse assessment and treatment, whether drugs or alcohol.
  • I love the law and I love the courtroom. At 19, I began as a legal secretary and that set in motion the

trajectory of my career and life. Since then, I have dedicated my life in pursuit of that passion. My true passion is connecting with people and the experience of the courtroom. I believe the courtroom is the arena where the greatest work is being done to help others. As someone who walked side by side many people navigating the court system, I have an insight and awareness of the immense responsibility and privilege it is to have someone put their full trust in you. I value trust as the most important quality of a judge because they make decisions that will profoundly

    impact someone else’s life.
  • I have a unique skill set and diverse courtroom experience. I currently handle a case load of 300 people suffering with mental health and substance abuse disorders which represent the most vulnerable and misunderstood individuals in our community. Gaining and maintaining the trust of those most fearful and critical of the judicial system, is an asset to any Court. While I am assigned to a problem-solving court, the challenges I see every day are not unique to one Court, they are a consideration in every single courtroom, What is unique is the daily interaction with the Court and with those who make the courtroom function, in a capacity most lawyers don’t. I go to work in a a courtroom nearly every single day, and have for the past 12 years
  • I believe a judge should be attentive. Being open and unassuming in receiving information is paramount to a fair decision because you cannot get to a fair decision unless both sides are heard. I believe a judge should be prepared, not only relying on one’s own breadth of knowledge, but humility to ask questions that will get to the crux of the issue to be decided. By listening and being well informed, a judge can be confident in rendering an impartial decision rooted in the law.
The most recent Community Health Assessment by the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County identified behavioral health (mental health and substance abuse) as the number one priority health issue. In the Tampa Bay area, one in twelve has a substance abuse disorder. One in six people suffers from depression. My free time is spent in this vein focusing on our most dire challenges facing the community, whether its teaching young students at the Great American Teach-In, lawyers aspects of trial advocacy or professionals in the areas of Marchman Act. I teach When Clinical Meets Court to educate community providers on how to bridge the gap from law enforcement, Court intervention, and rehabilitation.
I have represented over 2000 individuals, that trusted me to be their voice, including challenging the conviction of a man that was sentenced to thirty-years for a drug offense, a mere six months after I graduated law school. Those motions are argued 100% of the time and rarely granted. Today, that man has an amazing life-rehabilitated, great job, family-having children for the first time at 50 years old, his daughter he named

after me. That man was also my uncle. My uncle’s case may have been one of the first cases I argued over

a decade ago, but it laid the foundation for my belief in every person’s right to access the Court. I built a practice on the conviction that as long as I remained in a place where I had a voice, I would use it to only do good. I want to leave a legacy rooted in good, honest work for all the individuals that have trusted me. They remain in my line of sight as I strive to be a Hillsborough County Judge.
The role of the Court is to be prepared, know the law, hear the facts, and apply the law to the facts. I leave the legislature to make policy, and vow to implement the law regardless of personal belief.
