I’m a mother to five school-age kids, an advocate, educator, life-long student, soccer coach, and a perpetual optimist. Since I was a little girl, I have believed in hard work, chasing your dreams, and never giving up on what you believe in.

In my career, I’ve been fortunate to be able to advocate for causes I believe in, including education, public policy, and ending human trafficking. Life has taken me all over the world and exposed me to so many other cultures. I’ve lived in Germany, Guam, and Korea, where I taught high school English, and learned Korean. I found home in Prince William County nine years ago when the military brought our family back from overseas.

  • 1. Restoring Safety In Our Schools – Last year, PWCS recorded 46 violent threats, 24 weapons, and 9 guns. Our students, parents, and teachers deserve a School Board that takes this safety crisis seriously. That means treating threats seriously, zero-tolerance for violence and bullying, and SROs in every school.
  • 2. Solve the PWCS Teacher Shortage – PWCS has over 300 unfilled teaching positions, resulting in higher class sizes and lower academic achievement. It’s time for a School Board that respects our teachers and staff, offers competitive pay and benefits, and prioritizes safety, so we can fully staff our schools.
  • 3. Refocus on Student Achievement – Our schools are in a deep academic hole, with 20% lower SOL scores, 30% of elementary students behind in reading, and 20% of high schoolers behind in math. Half of our high schoolers are failing at least one class, and we're at a 6-year low for on-time graduations. As Chair, I'll prioritize student achievement and work to restore classroom discipline so that students -- and teachers -- can be their very best at school each day.
As a mother, education is my top priority. I've seen the consequences of neglectful, absent leadership. Our public schools are facing a serious crisis: rampant bullying and violence, classroom disruptions, a majority of high schoolers failing at least one class, elementary students struggling to read, the disrespect of our IEP and SpEd students and their families, and a lack of accountability. The truth is, our children – our future – deserve so much better than what they're getting. But it's not just students; the policies set by our School Board affect the quality of life of our teachers and their ability to do their jobs, and they can have consequences for families and the values they teach at home. My greatest hope with this campaign is that I am able to give voice to those who the School Board's policies have left behind, and to restore the promise of a bright future to our children.
I am a researcher and problem solver who has spent 24 years in school and higher education, now pursuing my PhD. I have always been a leader, whether on the soccer field as team captain, or in law school as the President of Student Organizations. I lead by encouraging and pushing others by correcting without resentment. I believe in looking at best-practices from other jurisdictions and adopting lessons learned. I am positive, enthusiastic, focused, goal-oriented, observant, respectful, patient, and a clear-communicator. Most importantly, I am empathetic and a good listener.
The core responsibilities of the school board, and its members, are to: (1) protect the safety of students, teachers and staff; (2) attract top teaching and administrative talent; (3) deliver on the promise of a bright future to students; (4) foster a respectful and collaborative relationship with parents; and (5) ensure that the school division has the facilities and resources it needs to provide an excellent education to all students.
My first job out of college was teaching at Suncheon Boys' High School in Suncheon, South Korea. I taught English for one year on the Fulbright ETA program.

My first part-time job (on a work permit) was working at Knupper's Flower & Garden in Palatine, IL. I worked as a student-athlete in the off-season. While I never became great with plants, I learned how to string lights on trees such that the strings were hidden, how to properly tie large bows, and how to theme-decorate Christmas trees!
The primary job of a School Board member is to listen. Whether setting the vision and goals, adopting policies and a budget to achieve the goals, or hiring and overseeing the superintendent, listening is always the first step in the process.
Students, parents, teachers, staff, and all other residents.
A safe, respectful, and calm in-person classroom environment where students are challenged to do their very best.
More townhalls, more listening sessions, and publicized office hours with an open-door policy to hear from parents and teachers.
