Bill Raggio
Bill Raggio (b. October 30, 1926) is a former Republican member of the Nevada State Senate, representing Washoe 3 from 1972 to January 15, 2011. Raggio said the primary reason he resigned was because of mobility problems.[1]
He also served as an alternate on the Legislative Commission from 1985 to 1988 and from 1991 to 1993. He was a member of the Legislative Commission from 1973 to 1975 and from 1977 to 1997. Raggio was Senate Minority Floor Leader from 1977 to 1979, 1983 to 1986 and in 1991 and 2009. He was Majority Floor Leader from 1987 to 1989 and from 1993 to 2011.[2]
In a poll by The Ralston Report, Raggio was named the most effective state legislator several times.[3]
Biography
Raggio earned his B.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1948 and his J.D. from Hastings College of Law at the University of California in 1951. His professional experience includes working as Assistant District Attorney for Washoe County, Nevada, from 1952 to 1958, as District Attorney for Washoe County, Nevada, from 1958 to 1970, as an attorney for Raggio, Wooster and Linder from 1980 to 1981, as Senior Partner for Vargas-Bartlett from 1991 to 1998 and as an attorney for Jonas-Vargas Law Firm since 1998. Raggio served in the United States National Reserve. He was Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1944 to 1946.[2]

On November 4, 2008, Raggio won re-election to the Washoe 3 District Seat in the Nevada State Senate, defeating opponents Jade Zahreddine (D) and Gary Feero (Independent American).[4]
