My name is Brandon Reid, and I am seeking the 32nd Middlesex District State Representative seat in the upcoming special election. I am running because I would like to see state government operate more efficiently, and pass smart legislation of which the people of this community will benefit greatly.
  • Transparency and accountability. Lets breakdown state government spending and follow the money. Every last dollar of taxpayer's money should be accounted for and going towards the causes that people in the community support..
  • Education is key. Let's get rid of MCAS testing. It simply distracts from teaching and learning.
  • Taxes should not be this much of a burden. I would like to raise the MA state tax threshold from $1 million to $5.5 Million. This is long overdue.
I am passionate about people. And as someone who will advocate hard for the causes that matter most to the people of the commonwealth, it is important to have a strong grasp on the economy. Financial health is a big component of this, and at present, we need more accountability. We must eliminate reckless spending and ease the tax burden. We need to measure the effectiveness of existing state run programs. We also need to do better in terms of infrastructure and transportation -including improving public transit, making our streets safer, and increasing handicap parking. We need to support small business growth, instead of discouraging them with high fees. In addition to this, we must do better for our veterans and our senior citizens, who far too often cannot access the services they need because of inefficient bureaucratic processes. There are many, many other items that must be addressed, and I will do so if given the opportunity. And I want to be 100% clear, regardless of your political affiliation, I'll be going to the State House representing each and every one of you and I will not be pushed around on Beacon Hill.
As a longtime boxer, I always admired Muhammad Ali. He always stood up for his beliefs, and was very much his own man. He was brilliant, imperfect, and very much a genuine soul.
It is imperative that our elected officials have strong values and morals. They must also be empathetic, and have the ability to represent people from all walks of life.
I'm a good listener, and I'm eager to represent everyone in the community across party lines. I'm a hard worker, and I have strong leadership abilities.
Advocate for the people and the issues that matter most to them, while making responsible and practical decisions to support these causes.
I would like my legacy to be simple. Someone who represented the people well, and fought hard for the issues that matter most. Someone who got things done, and helped in bringing real, positive chance to the community and commonwealth.
The Bill Clinton impeachment proceedings may be the first event that I vividly recall. I was 14 at that time. However, 9-11 was the first historical event that really hit me on a personal level. The tragedy of that day is forever ingrained in my mind, and the minds of most anyone who lived through those horrific events.
I worked as a landscaper for 5 years, starting at age 14.
I'm currently reading a book called "In Love With The World", written by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, a Tibetan teacher and Buddhist Monk. He shares his story about his journey, and it is a beautiful read that is full of wisdom.
Oh, I don't know. Most of the fictional characters I enjoy watching, probably break laws -including almost all superheroes, so I best leave this question alone! In all seriousness, I wouldn't like to be any fictional character.
I've overcome a great deal of things in my life, both personally and professionally. As far as something that has been an consistent theme, I'd say financially it has been a struggle to get ahead due to the high cost of living in this state.
I consider the greatest benefit to having both legislative chambers, is that they balance each other out in making sure that everyone in the commonwealth is well represented. They both may offer slightly different perspectives based on the contrasting size of the districts that they each represent.
I believe it is important for state legislators to have a strong grasp of the issues that directly effect people. This does not necessarily require experience in government and politics.
Spending and accountability. This state does not have a great track record in this area.
Communication and understanding is key, as is a mutual respect.
Absolutely. Healthy relationships are very important in gaining an understanding of one's views and contribute to an environment where the issues can be discussed in a most productive way.
