I am proud to serve as the Councilmember representing Ward 2 and the Democratic nominee running for re-election to the DC Council this November because I know that we deserve a leader who is committed to transparent, reasoned, and passionate representation. After winning a crowded Democratic primary for the Ward 2 seat in June, I went on to win the special election to fill the very same seat as the youngest DC councilmember in history. Serving as the first woman to represent Ward 2 on the Council has been an honor, and I look forward to having the chance to fight for a more just, more affordable, and cleaner city for four more years. In my first few months on the Council, I have fought for more support for our small businesses, secured millions of dollars for our parks, schools, and public housing, and worked with my colleagues to balance the budget while increasing social support programs and without raising taxes.
  • Small businesses: Ensuring our small businesses have what they need to recover from rising rent prices, increased regulation, and a reduction in revenue.
  • Criminal justice reform: Reforming the lifespan of the system from increasing after school programming to shifting enforcement responsibilities out of MPD to community based policing to updating our expungement laws and ensuring that all of our residents are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Affordable housing: Alleviating our chronically homeless population by moving more folks into permanent supportive housing and improving our multi-agency approach to address the crises.
Addressing our housing crisis, uplifting small businesses, and ensuring that our agencies both have what they need in staffing and resources to address the COVID-19 crisis, as well as provide responsible oversight to our agencies so there is not a duplication of efforts.
