Alabama House of Representatives elections, 2014
Elections for the Alabama House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014; a runoff election took place where necessary on July 15, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014.
Following the general election, there was no change to the majority control of the Alabama House of Representatives, which was held by the Republican Party. Republicans further solidified their majority by picking up six more seats, rising from 66 to 72; Democratic seats dropped from 37 to 33. In addition to the gains from seats held by Democrats, the Republicans also picked up Independent Richard Laird's seat in the defeat of Democrat Josh Burns and Independent Guy Kelly by Republican Bob Fincher.

Qualifications
Members of the House must be 21 at the time of their election, and must have been citizens of Alabama for three years, having lived in their respective districts for at least one year immediately preceding their election.[1]
Competitiveness
Candidates unopposed by a major party
In 65 of the 105 districts up for election in 2014, there was only one major party candidate running for election. A total of 18 Democrats and 47 Republicans were guaranteed election barring unforeseen circumstances.
Two major party candidates faced off in the general election in 40 of the 105 districts up for election.
Primary challenges
A total of 31 incumbents faced primary competition on June 3. 16 incumbents did not seek re-election in 2014 and another 58 incumbents advanced past the primary without opposition. The state representatives that faced primary competition included:
- District 17: Six-term incumbent Mike Millican (R) defeated Jim Bonner in the Republican primary. Don Barnwell was unopposed in the Democratic primary.
- District 23: Five-term incumbent John Robinson (D) defeated Jim Green in the Democratic primary. James T. (Tommy) Hanes, Jr. was unopposed in the Republican primary.
- District 47: Incumbent Jack Williams (R), first elected in 2004, defeated David Wheeler in the Republican primary.
- District 52: Eight-term incumbent John W. Rogers, Jr. (D) defeated Patrick Sellers in the Democratic primary.
- District 76: Five-term incumbent Thad McClammy (D) defeated Maurice Rollins and Tracy Larkin in the Democratic primary. No Republican filed to run.
- District 79: Four-term incumbent Mike Hubbard (R) defeated Fred "Sandy" Toomer in the Republican primary.
- District 83: Five-term incumbent George "Tootie" Bandy (D) defeated Ronnie Reed in the Democratic primary. Gary Head was unopposed in the Republican primary.
- District 90: Incumbent Charles O. Newton (R), first elected in 1988, was defeated by Chris Sells in the Republican primary. Walton Hickman was unopposed in the Democratic primary.
- District 91: Incumbent Barry Moore (R), first elected in 1988, defeated Joshua R. Pipkin in the Republican primary. No Democrat filed to run.
