Academic performance
Each year, state and local education agencies use tests and other standards to assess student proficiency. Although the data below was published by the U.S. Department of Education, proficiency measurements are established by the states. As a result, proficiency levels are not comparable between different states and year-over-year proficiency levels within a district may not be comparable because states may change their proficiency measurements.[13]
The following table shows the percentage of district students who scored at or above the proficiency level each school year:

2013: Bond proposal worth $892 million
In May 2013, Austin ISD put the largest bond proposal ever attempted in Central Texas at that time to the vote. In total, the bond package was worth $892 million. The package was split into four different propositions: Propositions 1, 2, 3 and 4. Propositions 1 and 3 were approved by voters and propositions 2 and 4 were rejected. Proposition 1, totaling $140.6 million, passed by a few hundred votes and was earmarked for technology upgrades, energy conservation initiatives, and new equipment. Proposition 2, worth $234 million, did not pass and would have addressed overcrowding in district schools through the construction of three new schools. Proposition 3, which passed, was the largest portion of the bond package at $349 million. It was intended to go toward various renovations in the district. Proposition 4, which was rejected by voters, would have given $168.6 million to the district for academic programs, fine arts, and athletics. It was the first district bond proposal since 1989 to be rejected, or partially rejected, by voters.[14]<ref>[https://communityimpact.com/austin/vote/2013/05/02/voters-pass-489-7m-in-austin-isd-bond-election-two-propositions-fail/ Community Impact Newsletter, "Voters pass $489.7M in Austin ISD bond election; two propositions fail," May 2, 2013
