Anita Florio
Anita R. Florio was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division. She was appointed to this division by Governor Cuomo on January 1, 1994. She retired in 2012.[1]
Education
Florio earned a B.A. degree from Manhattanville College in 1958, a law degree from Fordham University Law School in 1963, and a LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree from the New York University School of Law in 1966.[1][2]
Career
Florio began her legal career in October of 1963 as a private practice lawyer. On February 3, 1969, she became an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County. In November of 1970, she joined the Office of Legal Procedures of the Parking Violations Bureau of New York City. After this, in January of 1972, she became a law secretary to Joseph Sullivan of the Bronx County Supreme Court. Approximately, three years later, after a few months as a private practice lawyer, she became the Deputy Secretary of State and Counsel to New York Secretary of State Mario Cuomo (who would later become the Governor of New York). She worked in this capacity from April 14, 1975 until December 28, 1977, when she took office as Judge of the New York City Criminal Court. She judged on this court until January 26, 1981. She then worked as Acting Justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court until the end of 1983. In November of 1983, she was elected to the 12th Judicial District of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. She took office on January 1, 1984 and was re-elected in November of 1997. She later served in the appellate division until her retirement in 2012.[1]
