Andrew Adams is a judge of the Clark County Circuit Court in Indiana. He was elected in 2014 for a term commencing on January 1, 2015, and expiring on December 31, 2020.[1]

Noteworthy events

White Castle Shooting

On May 1, 2019, Judge Adams, along with several other Clark County Circuit Court judges, were involved in a verbal altercation at the White Castle bar in Indianapolis, Indiana.[2] The verbal altercation turned into a physical altercation.[3] During this incident, Judge Adams kicked a man in the back. The man retaliated by shooting Judge Adams once and Clark County Circuit Court Judge Brad Jacobs twice. Judge Adams was transported to a local hospital where he received multiple emergency surgeries. Judge Adams survived and recovered from this shooting.[4]

On November 12, 2019, the Indiana Supreme Court issued a decision titled In the Matter of the Honorable Andrew Adams, discussing the White Castle Shooting and formerly reprimanding Judge Adams.[5] Judge Adams was sentenced to a 60-day suspension without pay, effective November 12, 2019. This suspension ended on January 13, 2020.[6]

On January 13, 2020, Judge Adams was reinstated as Clark County Circuit Court Judge for Clark County Circuit Court 1.[7]

Adams ran for election to the Clark County Circuit Court.
Primary: He was successful in the Democratic primary on May 6, 2014, receiving 52.0 percent of the vote. He competed against Daniel Moore.
General: He was unopposed in the general election on November 4, 2014. [1][8] 

Education

Adams received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law.[9]

Career

Adams was an attorney in private practice before joining the court in 2015. He has worked as a public defender and judge pro tem in Clark and Floyd counties.[10]
