William W. Nooter was an associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He served as an associate judge on this court from December 22, 2015 to February 6, 2023. Prior to his service as an associate judge, Judge Nooter was a magistrate judge on the same court from 2000-2015, serving as presiding magistrate judge from 2010-2013.[1][2]

Early life and education

Nooter earned his B.A. from St. John’s College. He went on to earn his J.D., graduating with honors from the George Washington University Law School.[3]

On July 11, 2013, President Obama nominated William W. Nooter to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to fill the vacancy left by A. Franklin Burgess, Jr..[4] Obama commented on the nomination, stating, "I am pleased to nominate Judge William Ward Nooter to serve on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. I am confident he will serve with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice."[3]

Judge Nooter had hearings before the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on October 8, 2013.[5] On June 24, 2015, his nomination was reported out of committee to the full Senate. Nooter's nomination was confirmed on November 19, 2015, on a voice vote.[6] He was sworn in on December 22, 2015 and retired on February 6, 2023.[7][2]
