William Oliver (Indiana)
William Oliver (Democratic Party) was a member of the Indianapolis City Council, representing District 9. Oliver assumed office in 2004. Oliver left office on January 1, 2024.
Oliver (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Indianapolis City Council to represent District 8. Oliver did not appear on the ballot for the Democratic primary on May 2, 2023.
He was elected to the District 10 seat on the council in 2004. He won election to the District 9 seat on November 3, 2015.[1] He represented District 9 from 2016 until 2024.
Biography
Oliver is from Indianapolis, Indiana. He worked at the Chrysler Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 2005. He is a past member of the United Auto Workers union, and is a lifetime member of the NAACP.[2]

2015
The city of Indianapolis, Indiana, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A partisan primary election took place on May 5, 2015. The filing deadline for major party candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. The filing deadline for independent or minor party candidates was July 15, 2015.[3] Twenty-five city council seats were up for election. Indianapolis's four at-large seats were not up for election, because those seats were scheduled to expire at the end of 2015.[4]
In District 9, William Oliver (D) defeated Charles E. "Chuck" Madden (R) in the general election. Madden filed to run after the primary. Incumbent Joseph Simpson (D) ran for election to the District 7 seat.[5]
