Victor Lopez (New Mexico)
Victor S. Lopez is a judge for Division XXVII of the New Mexico 2nd Judicial District Court. He assumed office in 2015. His current term ends on January 1, 2031.
Lopez ran for re-election for the Division XXVII judge of the New Mexico 2nd Judicial District Court. He won in the retention election on November 5, 2024.
Lopez was appointed to the New Mexico Workers' Compensation Administration Court in 2007 and left the court in August 2013.[1][2][3] Lopez ran for a seat on the New Mexico Court of Appeals in 2012, but he was defeated.
Biography
Victor Lopez received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1980 and his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1983.[1] He has also attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, and is enrolled in their Masters degree Program in Judicial Studies.[2] His career experience includes working as an attorney and judge.

Lopez announced his intention to run for election to the New Mexico Court of Appeals in a YouTube video on August 10, 2011. Lopez competed against M. Monica Zamora in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012, but was defeated, earning only 34% of the vote.[5] Zamora competed against incumbent J. Miles Hanisee in the general election on November 6, 2012.[6]
