A Vermont Manner of Electing the Vermont Secretary of State Amendment was on the March 6, 1883 ballot in Vermont as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved, becoming Article 28 of the amendments to the Vermont Constitution.[1]

The amendment provided for election of the Vermont Secretary of State and auditor of accounts on the same ticket as the Governor of Vermont, Lieutenant Governor of Vermont and Vermont Treasurer.

This language was thereby added to the Vermont Constitution:

SECTION 1. The Secretary of State and Auditor of Accounts shall be elected by the freemen of the State upon the same ticket with the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Treasurer.
SEC. 2. The Legislature shall carry this article into effect by appropriate legislation.
