This page is about a former federal court. For a list of active courts, see: United States federal courts.

The United States Circuit Court for the District of Georgia was established as part of the Judiciary Act of 1789. Twelve years later, it was abolished by the Judiciary Act of 1801, which completely rearranged the circuit court system. This act was abolished in 1802, thereby restoring this court.

On August 11, 1848, this court was permanently abolished with the division of Georgia into Northern and Southern. The Circuit Court for the Southern District of Georgia was created at that time, but the District Court for the Northern District was given circuit court jurisdiction.[1]
