The United States Circuit Court for the Southern District of New York was created on April 9, 1814, with the division of New York into Northern and Southern judicial districts, and the respective Circuit Court for the Southern District of New York. From that time until 1826, this court heard appeals from both the Northern and Southern Districts of New York. In 1826, the appellate jurisdiction over the Northern District was removed to the Supreme Court. The Circuit Court for the Southern District was dissolved, with the rest of the circuit court system, on March 3, 1911.[1]
