Primary: Ohio has a mostly closed primary system, in which voters must vote in the same party's primary as in the previous election, or register with the other party to switch.
Voter registration: Voters had to register to vote in the primary by February 5. For the general election, the voter registration deadline was October 7.[1]

Election history
2010
On November 2, 2010, Rob Portman won election to the United States Senate. He defeated Lee Fisher, Michael L. Pryce, Eric W. Deaton, Daniel H. LaBotz, and Arthur T. Sullivan in the general election.[27]
2006
On November 7, 2006, Sherrod Brown won election to the United States Senate. He defeated Mike DeWine, and Richard Duncan in the general election.[28]
