Tim Pawlenty (Republican Party) was the Governor of Minnesota. He assumed office in 2003. He left office in 2011.

Pawlenty (Republican Party) ran for election for Governor of Minnesota. He lost in the Republican primary on August 14, 2018.

Pawlenty was considered as a possible running mate for Republican presidential nominees John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012. He was not chosen for either position.[1][2][3]

In 2012, Pawlenty became the CEO of Financial Services Roundtable.[4]

During the period of transition between the Obama and Trump administrations, Pawlenty was reported to be in consideration for a high-level appointment in the Trump administration. He had been considered for the role of Secretary of the Treasury.[5]

Pawlenty was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was raised in South St. Paul.[6]

Political career

Pawlenty entered politics as a City Council Member in the city of Eagan, MN in 1988. In 1992, Pawlenty was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives and became the Republican Party Majority Leader in 1999. He briefly explored a race for governor in 1998. He was elected Governor of Minnesota in 2002 and won re-election in 2006.[7]

2012

Pawlenty launched his campaign to run in the 2012 presidential election on May 23, 2011 in Des Moines, Iowa. He withdrew from the race in August 2011.[8]

Pawlenty was considered a possible 2012 vice presidential running mate for Mitt Romney, but was not chosen.[9]
