Johnson ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent Alabama's 7th District. Johnson was defeated by incumbent Terri Sewell in the Democratic primary on June 3, 2014.[3]

In the Democratic primary for the Circuit 10 on March 13, 2012, no candidate received 50 percent of the vote. Johnson received the most, with 41.79 percent. She was defeated in the primary runoff on April 24, 2012, receiving 42 percent of the vote.[4][5][6]
